An 85-year-old runner has accomplished his best time for a 5k race - as well as winning his 100th medal.

Ray Johnson, from Faversham, set himself the challenge of getting 100 medals before he got to 90-years-old, and is over the moon at reaching his target.

Mr Johnson completed the 5k race at the Mo Run in Whitstable in 46 minutes and 55 seconds, his best time yet.

"At the finish, I received three medals," Mr Johnson said.

"One for finishing, the second was the "legend" medal for being the oldest runner, and the third from my friend Katie who had one specially engraved with a message from her to commemorate my 100 medals.

"I now have a total of 102!"

Mr Johnson said he had been training three times a week in the lead up to this race.

"The Mo Run was a big success and with help and encouragement from my friends I finished in my best time for a 5k run," he said.

"I had such great support from my running club friends, who accompanied me all the way; they can all run faster than me but stayed with me right to the end.

"They were Katie, Caroline, Malgosia, Carl, and Paul."

The Mo Run is in aide of 'Movember' - hence the mostache shaped medals.

Mr Johnson got his 97th medal after the Givaudan race in Ashford in October.

He then got his 99th medal at the end of October after the five mile Ashford and District Halloween run.
