Serious crash on M2 London-bound between J7 and J6 Faversham after car and motorbike crash

A “serious collision” between a car and motorbike blocked a motorway.

The accident happened on the M2 London-bound around 5pm and resulted in lengthy queues.

Traffic was held while the emergency services dealt with the aftermath of the crash which was between Junction 7 for the A2 at Brenley Corner, to Junction 6 at the A251 Ashford Road, Faversham.

Fire crews confirmed the bike had to be extinguished after being engulfed in flames following the smash.

A KFRS spokesperson said: “Two fire engines attended, and firefighters used hose reel jets to extinguish a fire after the motorcycle caught alight.

“Two people were injured, and crews administered first aid before being passed into the care of SECAmb paramedics.”

An update from National Highways, on X, formerly known as Twitter, at 7.21pm said: “Traffic has been released in all lanes on the M2 westbound between J7 and J6 Faversham following the earlier collision.

“Delays are clearing quickly.”

In an earlier post on X, National Highways said: “Traffic is being held on the M2 westbound between J7 and J6 Faversham, following a serious collision involving a car and a motorbike.

“Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance are on scene.”

A spokesperson for the police said: “Officers, paramedics and fire crews attended the scene where a man and a woman were treated for injuries that are not described as life-threatening.

“Both were taken to a local hospital for further medical attention.”
