FAVERSHAM Town FC chairman Tony Hillier-Carter is staying tight-lipped over the future of the former Kent League side.

However, he suggested he might be ready to talk publicly next week after meetings with fellow directors and shareholders due to take place in the next couple of days.

The plight of the 102-year-old club has attracted a wide range of opinions since their resignation from the league at the end of last month.

Mr Hillier-Carter said: “I don’t want to make any comment, but I think we will be saying quite a bit next week."

Whether Faversham are gone for good is a question that remains unanswered. It’s believed that Mr Hillier- Carter may be working on a proposal to keep them in the Kent League, but time is not on his side.

He said: “We have been talking to a lot of people all over the place.” Moves by Faversham to re-apply for membership of the league will be viewed as a new application, and have to be lodged with the league’s management committee 21 days before the annual meeting in June.

The league officers are desperate to increase the number of member clubs - 16 - and the 30-game programme is seen as far too few for a league of its standing.

But it is certain the league will demand a review of the Faversham facilities before making a decision to re-elect them. Recent vandalism at Salters Lane only adds to the club’s problems.
