Wallets, laptops and cash were among items stolen in an overnight spate of thefts from cars in Faversham.

On Monday, seven parked vehicles were broken into in residential roads around the town centre.

Offenders gained access to the cars without causing damage and showing no signs of forced entry.

Car owners now are being reminded by police to remove valuable items from their vehicles to deter opportunist thieves.

District commander for Swale, chief inspector Alan Rogers said: "We suspect opportunist thieves may be visiting the area during the hours of darkness looking for insecure cars or vehicles with expensive items on show.

"While we are investigating these offences, I would urge car owners to make sure you lock all doors and close windows whenever you leave the vehicle.

"Never leave anything valuable on display and if possible remove it from the car overnight. If feasible, park in a garage, secure car park or well-lit area.

"My officers continue to patrol these areas overnight and I would urge anybody who sees someone on foot or in a vehicle acting suspiciously to contact us."

Items reported stolen include wallets, laptops, cash, keys and coats.
