A teenager pulled out a knife and stabbed a man he had earlier assaulted outside a shop in Faversham, a court heard.

Jack Lupson had to be airlifted to a London hospital to be treated for a wound to his abdomen after being attacked by John Brazil, a jury was told.

Mr Lupson and his friend Martin Brewer had been out shooting on August 1 last year and then went to Davington Stores in Priory Row.

After Mr Lupson pulled up outside in his VW Golf, a Toyota stopped behind them.

Prosecutor Bridget Todd said Mr Brewer went to the car to talk to some friends in it.

Brazil, who he did not know, was sitting in the front passenger seat and asked what he was staring at.

Mr Brewer, 28, walked off to the shop. Brazil followed and punched him hard in the face, leaving his nose and mouth bleeding, Miss Todd told Maidstone Crown Court.

Mr Lupson tried to calm things down but was also punched by Brazil. Neither Mr Brewer or Mr Lupson retaliated, said Miss Todd.

Brazil, then 18, of Barrow Green, Teynham, returned to the Toyota and it drove off. The incident was caught on CCTV cameras in the shop.

Mr Lupson took his friend home and then drove to Barnes Close to “sort it out”. He went towards a house shouting: “Get him out here now.”

“He saw the person who punched him emerge from the address,” said Miss Todd.

“He walked towards him and made an attempt to punch him.

One resident saw Mr Lupson sitting on a grass embankment clutching his stomach. She saw Brazil running down the road with a large knife in his hand shouting: “Do you want it?”

Brazil, known as Baby John ran to a car, got in and it sped off.

“He stabbed him in the stomach in a cold and calculating, deliberate act,” added Miss Todd.

Mr Lupson was taken by air ambulance to King’s College Hospital in London with a suspected punctured colon. He was detained for six days.

Brazil, now 19, denies wounding with intent, an alternative charge of unlawful wounding, making a threat with a knife and two assaults.

The trial continues.
