A historic village pub is looking refreshed thanks to a £100,000 makeover - and there are new faces behind the bar to go with the venue’s new look.
Husband-and-wife team Reuben and Kate Love have taken over the Queens Head in Boughton, which was built in 1590 in the village just outside Faversham.
The refurbishment project saw the Shepherd Neame boozer in The Street repainted and given new furniture, light fittings and decor.
In the new year, the garden will also be kitted out with new decking and furniture.
For Reuben and Kate, it is a return to Shepherd Neame, as they previously worked for the Faversham-based company 20 years ago, managing pubs across the county such as the Royal Oak in Dartford, the Early Bird in Grove Green, and the Crown Inn in Chislehurst.
Reuben said: “Kate and I wanted to try something new, so three years ago we decided to move to Spain and open a bar and restaurant.
“It went really well, but this year we decided to come back to the UK for family reasons.
“We contacted Shepherd Neame to see if there were any opportunities available.
“When they showed us the Queens Head, we fell in love with its unique character and could see that it has massive potential.”
While Reuben looks after front-of-house, wife Kate oversees the kitchen team and the pub is open Tuesday to Sunday.
Food is served daily, with lunch from midday to 3pm Tuesday to Saturday, and dinner from 6pm until 9pm.
On Sundays, food can be ordered from midday until 5pm.
Reuben added: “We enjoyed working with Shepherd Neame in the past and are really pleased to be back with them again.
“We have lots of plans for the coming months.
“But our primary aim is to ensure that our pub is at the heart of the local community, and everyone feels welcome here.
“We love what we do, and we are really excited about this new challenge.”
