Ray Turner has said his Faversham Town side need to be realistic about their expectations this season as he looks to rebuild his team.

Town have not won for four games and lost both matches over the Christmas period.

However, Turner said there has been a lot of change in the playing squad this season and it is about putting things in place for next year.

He said: “We know this season is a season of rebuilding and we know we are not good enough right now.We need to put things in place for the back end of the season and for next campaign.

“It is the biggest rebuilding of a squad that I have been involved in. It has been a
14-player turnaround, which is unprecedented. It is not something I wanted to do.

“We have a lot of young players starting off their careers. They have to grab this opportunity and that will only come with game time.”

Faversham were beaten 1-0 at home by Walton Casuals on Saturday and then lost their Boxing Day derby with Herne Bay, away 3-1.

Turner said: “Walton Casuals are having a good run at the moment. On Saturday we would have hoped to get a more positive result. We started the game well and had a couple of
chances before they scored their goal.

“There was not much between the two teams on Boxing Day. In both games the first goal was crucial.

“Saturday was closer than Boxing Day. They (Bay) have not had to work hard for their goals.”

Faversham face two more tough games in the last of their festive matches.

They travel to second-placed Cray Wanderers on Saturday before hosting second-from- bottom Ashford United on New Year’s Day.

Town find themselves 18th in the table on 29 points.
On the Cray game, Turner added: “On paper it is the hardest game we can play right now. They have a real chance of winning the league.

“We have to be better in all departments against Ashford. They had a good result against Sittingbourne on Boxing Day. It is a local game so hopefully it will attract a decent crowd.”
