Faversham joint-manager Phil Miles was left delighted after seeing his side respond with a clinical display to record their second win over Hythe Town in as many weeks.

The Lilywhites lost 2-1 to newly-promoted Chichester City on Saturday before beating Hythe 7-1 in Tuesday night’s Velocity Trophy clash.

It followed up a 1-0 league victory seven days before against The Cannons, who had been tipped as one of the favourites to go up this season.

Miles said: “We’re really pleased. We played just as well on Saturday, apart from about 10-15 minutes.

“We created six chances on Saturday and only scored one. We were so dominant in the first half, we should have been 4-0 up.

“Then we created about eight or nine chances on Tuesday and scored seven.

“We were 10 seconds from winning against Guernsey and didn’t take chances against Chichester.

“That’s probably five points we should have extra, that’s the only disappointment.

“The mood is fantastic. On Tuesday, the boys turned in a fantastic performance. They are starting to gel and we’ll only get better.

“From November last year when we got involved, we didn’t look like scoring many goals. This year it’s different.”

Co-manager Danny Chapman believes consistency will be key in what is shaping up to be an unpredictable Isthmian South East Division.

Chapman said: "It’s a funny old division, the new teams have done well. Cray Valley have started well, Ramsgate are struggling and Hythe are struggling.

"It’s about consistency and doing the right things.

"I went mad at the end of the Chichester game but I can’t knock the work rate of the lads.

"It’s just moments in the game and fine details, not marking properly and switching off for two seconds. We are a young squad and we’re going to make mistakes.

"We could be 5/10 one week and then 9/10 the other, but we’ve just got to work with that. It’s up to the boys whether they want to improve and get better as a team.

"They’ve got to learn quickly. It’s just lapses in concentration that have cost us. If we learn and learn quickly, we’ll be alright."

With Faversham having shifted to a predominantly non-contract basis on the back of last season, Chapman insists the onus is on the players to maintain their performance levels.

"We’re pleased with the squad but obviously it’s down to the boys," he explained.

"There are only two or three on contracts and we aren’t going to fall into that trap again.

"It’s up to the players to keep performing. We aren’t a month into the season and there’s going to be players coming about so the boys have got to keep performing and want to keep playing for their club and teammates.

"It’s down to them to perform."

Faversham don’t play again until their league meeting with Sittingbourne on September 14.
