Joint-manager Phil Miles has called for patience as Faversham continue to re-shape their squad ahead of the new season.

The Lilywhites recently bid farewell to Dan Carrington as one of five players to have left the club so far this summer.

Joining him through the exit door is Dave Cook to join his dad and newly-appointed Canterbury City manager Clive Cook as a player-assistant boss.

Miles explained: “Dan Carrington was a decision on our part, we knew we had to make some tough decisions and obviously we knew we’d have to speak to some players.

“Unfortunately we spoke to Dan and said he wouldn’t be in our plans for next year. There were players we were going to release next year.

“Me and Danny (co-boss Danny Chapman) sat down and spoke about who we think is going to be part of the club for the next three or four years.

“For our own reasons Danny and I decided we were going to let Dan go, but he was fine and I’m sure he’ll find another club and do well.

“We needed big changes and are hoping over the next week things will be a bit clearer.

“I spoke to Dave (Cook) last week just after the news that his dad got the Canterbury job. I think it’s quite convenient for Dave because he works quite a lot and it’s less commitment with Canterbury with his dad being involved there.

“With all the players we wish them all the best with what they do. We did have offers for others guys but they’ve decided to go elsewhere.

“The other guys have decided for their own reasons that they don’t want to come back to play at Faversham next year.”

Among those who also departed in search of new ventures were George Monger, Danny Walder and Luke Griffiths, leaving Town with gaps to plug across the squad.

“You can’t hide from it anymore,” Miles added. “You get a text or a phone call and then seconds later it’s on social media.

“I didn’t really get a chance to phone the chairman and tell him they’d left before he read it on Facebook or Twitter. It’s part of modern football.

“To be fair to all the players they spoke to us, either be it in a phone call, face to face or text.

“They decided they didn’t want to play for Faversham next year, but we knew it was always going to be a big rebuilding mission.

“We haven’t signed anyone yet, two or three of the lads have confirmed they want to come back next year.

“We’re still speaking to a couple of existing players to see what their plans are and then once we’ve done that we can really start pushing to speak to other players.

“Everybody just needs to be a little bit patient.”
