Boss Tommy Warrilow is on the look-out for more recruits after making his first summer signing at Faversham - but is prepared to be patient in the transfer market.

Forward Tashi-Jay Kwayie has agreed to join the Salters Lane side this summer from Isthmian South East outfit Phoenix Sports for Town’s 2024/25 Southern Counties East Premier Division promotion bid.

Warrilow was set to ask for answers from those in their 2023/24 squad who are yet to make up their minds on whether they will stay at Town upon his return from holiday this week while he was also keen to get some fresh faces over the line in the near future.

“I don’t know any club that keeps the exact same set of players over the summer,” he said.

“Everyone is always bringing in at least one or two. There’s no panic stations.

“Players always become available, as well, because they might fall out somewhere. It’s just a case of making sure it’s the right fit.

“It was never going to be a summer of us making multiple signings. We wanted to keep the majority from last season.

“We’re still waiting on answers from a couple but that will be addressed.

“I didn’t really want to put a bomb under it (the squad) anyway, there’s not a lot that needs breaking up. We’re not a million miles away.

“With the ones I’m waiting for answers from, there becomes a time where you just have to get on with it.

“I cannot just wait and wait. I think I’ve been more than fair.

“We need to get a few more in - we know that. But you hear other clubs bringing five, six or seven players in and that was never going to be the case for us.

“I’m not worrying. But I’m still looking to add to it.

“I’m hoping that - over the next week or so - there will be one, two or even three more in.”

Kwayie has worked alongside Warrilow at Ashford and Thamesmead.

“Tash has been speaking to four or five clubs,” the manager said. “I’m pleased to get him over the line, he’s the perfect fit for us.

“I had him at Ashford. I had him for a short spell at Thamesmead on loan, as well.

“He’s a fantastic addition to the squad.”

While Warrilow said he saw Kwayie best deployed in the No.10 role at Ashford, he’s open-minded about where he will use him with the Lilywhites.

“The nice thing is Tash can put a couple of hats on,” he explained.

“Sam Hasler can play as a No.10. Tash can go up top, as well as at No.10.

“That’s good because you always want players that are adaptable.

“You need that competition because you do pick up injuries and suspensions over the course of a season.”

Goalkeepers Jacob Russell and Lewis Briggs, defenders Ben Gorham and Bradley Simms, as well as midfielders Matt Newman, Sam Hasler and Billy Bennett are staying at the club for the new Southern Counties East Premier Division campaign.

But forwards Darnelle Bailey-King and Warren Mfula have left alongside defenders Josh Vincent, Jake McIntyre, Finn O’Mara, Rahman Kareem and Matt Parsons.

McIntyre and O’Mara have both joined rivals Whitstable.
