Clinical Faversham closed the gap on frontrunners Glebe to a point at the Southern Counties East Premier Division summit on Saturday - with an 8-0 win over second-bottom Stansfeld!

Sammy Moore’s Lilywhites had endured a tough 11 days, which saw Lydd complete the double over them this season with a 4-2 victory at Salters Lane last Tuesday before they saw two scheduled matches postponed last week.

But Town got back on track in fine fashion.

The division’s top scorer Stefan Payne got yet another brace, one a penalty, while defender Matt Newman was also at the double. Their other goals in front of a crowd of 257 came from right-back Josh Vincent, midfielder Sam Hasler, captain Connor Essam and substitute Jefferson Aibangbee while on-loan Folkestone player Jordan Ababio made his Faversham debut.

Glebe are just ahead of Faversham - but have played two league matches more - after they lost 3-1 to resurgent Deal Town.

Steve King’s Hoops held a 1-0 half-time lead as Rory Smith won a penalty which was converted by fellow frontman Aaron Millbank.

After the restart, Smith got two himself and, although Glebe - who have signed experienced defender Jamie Coyle pulled one back towards the end - it proved a mere consolation.

Two stoppage-time goals helped Welling Town to a second league win of the season, which ended Whitstable’s six-game winning streak in all competitions.

They led in front of a crowd of 271 at The Belmont through experienced striker Marcus Elliott but Marcel Nimani’s troops looked on course for another three points as Josh Williams converted a penalty he had won himself and striker Harvey Smith got another effort.

But Elliott equalised for Welling Town in the third minute of stoppage time and Perez Goumou got the all-important fifth goal, six minutes later.

Wideman Josh Reid got the only goal in Lordswood’s 1-0 triumph at home to Tunbridge Wells. Joel-Michael Odeniran put in a player-of-the-match performance for them.

Hosts K Sports and Faversham Strike Force shared the spoils in a six-goal Division 1 game.

Two-goal Tom Barton and Marshall Wratten found the net for the visitors, Oscar Webb and Todd Brand among the home scorers alongside substitute Kane Sedge.

Remarkably, all three goals came inside six first-half minutes in second-placed Rochester United’s 2-1 victory against basement boys SC Thamesmead.

Frontman Fjord Rogers put them ahead midway through the first period and midfielder Hicham Akhazzan netted from the halfway line for the second game running. Although James Fitchett ensured SC Thamesmead got on the scoresheet shortly before the half-hour mark, it wasn’t enough for them.

SC Thamesmead also had manager Danny Harris dismissed in the second half.

Brad Large struck three minutes after the restart in Staplehurst’s 1-0 win against Canterbury City.

Fourth-placed Larkfield & New Hythe fought back for a point at Bridon Ropes. The hosts led after two minutes, only for Matt Day to net a 29th-minute equaliser.

All other scheduled matches were postponed due to the wet weather.
