Manager Tommy Warrilow is confident Faversham are in good hands with the club’s current board.

The Lilywhites held their rearranged AGM on Monday, with Warrilow and Town’s hierarchy being joined by supporters at Salters Lane.

Two Faversham stalwart husband-and-wife teams in Clive and Wendy Walker and Bill and Marion Friend, as well as popular volunteer Rob Goodger, received honorary lifetime membership awards from chairman Gary Smart.

Warrilow says working with people who are so invested in the club helps motivate him to ensure the Lilywhites get promoted from the Southern Counties East Premier Division this term.

He said: “All the board are pretty much from Faversham.

"The only other place where I’ve really seen that before is Tonbridge, that’s why there’s a lot of history at Tonbridge.

“I spent seven years there and loved every minute of it. I’ve been at Faversham for about 11 months now.

“Obviously, I knew Faversham beforehand.

“Seeing everyone looking at the board, you can see the club is definitely on the right path. Hopefully, we can do the business on the pitch.

“It was nice to see so many people there and the history of the football club on Monday.

“When you see people like Lindsay Burden and Rob and all the work they do at the club - it’s their little baby - and all the stories they have, I just think it’s all brilliant. I love that!

“It means so much to them and you want to do well for them because they’re good people.”

Town moved within a point of leaders VCD as they promptly came back from a goal down to beat Snodland 3-1 thanks to a hat-trick by top scorer Tashi Jay-Kwayie last weekend.

Warrilow reflected: “It was a tough game again on Saturday.

"I saw Snodland get beaten 5-1 at Sutton Athletic, but they scored against the run of play and their keeper was unbelievable.

“It was one of those days where you start to think ‘Is it going to go in?’. But we were massively knocking on the door in the second half and, once we got the second, we never really looked back. The crowd were brilliant.

“To be honest, we should have been 2-0 or 3-0 up before they scored.

“But we weren’t and that was down to some poor finishing, some poor decision-making, and some was excellent goalkeeping. When they broke and scored, it didn’t surprise me.

“But the crowd stayed with us, we got the three goals and it’s another three points.”

Forward Johan Caney-Bryan had returned from holiday before the game, only for the Lilywhites’ manager to opt to leave him out of the squad.

He explained: “He came back last Friday. I thought it would be unfair to put him straight in the squad.

“But he was there on Saturday and had his kit with him, in case we needed him. He will be raring to go. I just thought it would send the wrong message out.

“Ian Draycott has got his goal last Tuesday and he has had to go back on the bench. Johan has been away and we didn’t really announce that.

“But we have got him back now and he’s a big player.”

Faversham are scheduled to visit Tunbridge Wells in the Kent Senior Trophy on Saturday, provided the game goes ahead in cold temperatures, before Wednesday’s league trip to fellow high-fliers Sutton Athletic.

On the Tunbridge Wells game, Warrilow said: “We will do what’s right for us.

“We will pick the bones out of it, and we’ll give a few boys minutes and a few that need a rest will get a rest. Whatever side we put out, it’s still a good side.

“If we rest some players, that doesn’t mean we’re disrespecting anyone or any competition.

“They’re a good, hard-working side, Tunbridge Wells, and it’s a tough place to go. I just hope the rain holds off.

“But if it does end up being on a Tuesday night, it’s not a million miles away. We’ll just hope it’s on and try to keep the momentum going.

“If not, we have a game against Sutton Athletic.”
