Ray Turner insists he will not quit as the manager of struggling Faversham Town.

Lilywhites have lost six of their first eight games in Bostik South and are just three points above rock-bottom Guernsey, who visit Salters Lane on Saturday (2pm).

They have serious injury problems and are lacking confidence but Turner has vowed to turn things around and get his team winning again.

“It’s the time when you’ve got to stand up,” said Turner, whose side lost 3-0 at Hythe on Tuesday. “It’s my responsibility and I will sort it out.

“Me and Clive Walker will work with the team until we find the answers. We know we’ve got a few problems and certainly confidence is an issue right now but you go one way or the other in these situations.

“You either shrivel up and can’t deal with the issues or you become stronger as a group. I’ve got to lead from the front and pull the team out of this hole.

“We will do it. We’ve been there before and you certainly find out about people. Anyone can manage a side when you’re on a winning run but it’s about getting them through this period.

“I’m going to be working flat-out until I can get the players in and get the team back winning again.”

Turner is hoping to sign young midfielder Chris Barnard on loan from Dover and a former full-time player will be at training on Thursday with a view to joining the club as well.

Since his appointment in 2011, Turner has led the club superbly but in the week that saw Ady Pennock fired by Gillingham he knows his long tenure at Faversham doesn’t make him immune from the same pressures.

He said: “You know how much the club means to me and how much work I’ve put in there.

“Next year it’ll be 14 years at the club so it’s not something I could take easily because it hurts and I care about things.

“I’m the man at the top that takes responsibility. If it’s not good enough, it’s not good enough but in the next couple of weeks, it won’t be for the want of trying.

“I’m not going to suddenly walk away because I’ve won a lot of games at this level and had relative success with three play-offs and a League Cup final.

“Just because it’s a bit tough at the moment doesn’t mean you suddenly turn your back on the club. If the board want me to carry on doing it, that’s what I’ll be doing.”

Turner confirmed Renford Tenyue and Charley Robertson are out long-term, while Danny Walder and Carl Rook both miss the Guernsey game through suspension.
