Faversham Town boss Ray Turner wants his side to show character and pride in the remaining games of the Bostik South season.

Several teams in the league are stranded in mid-table with little prospect of getting promoted or relegated.

However, Turner will not be happy for his side to just tick over and wants them to be competitive in every game.

He said: “We have to show a bit of character and pride in what we are doing. You don’t want to just see the season out. Some players are trying hard to push on.

“Shoreham look increasingly likely to get relegated as they’ve left themselves too much to do. It maybe does have an impact but you want to finish the season strongly.

“There are the top six or seven teams and then there are the rest of us in the middle. In previous seasons it has been a bit more competitive with teams able to make a run at the play-offs until quite late in the season.”

Town suffered a defeat to Whyteleafe on Saturday and Turner said their opponents were the better side on the day.

Faversham conceded in the opening five minutes and then a goal in the last minute sealed the defeat.

Turner said: “We are lacking in confidence and a bit of belief at the moment. It has been a difficult thing to get a run of good results going.

“They were the better side in all departments. We needed to keep the game tight but we did not do enough to score.”

Turner wants his side to bounce straight back from this defeat starting with their visit to South Park on Saturday.

He added: “We do not want it to be habit forming. We have to bounce straight back after defeats but we have not done that this season.

“South Park are a good side but their pitch has been a problem for them. They get so far behind in games they then have a lot to do.”
