Manager Tommy Warrilow conceded Faversham’s performance was not good enough as they lost his first home game in charge to leaders Glebe on Saturday.

Two second-half strikes from away top scorer Jamie Philpot and defender Reece Barrett proved the difference in the Lilywhites’ 2-0 Southern Counties East Premier Division defeat in front of a crowd of 380 at Salters Lane.

Warrilow, whose second-placed Town team are now four points behind Glebe, reflected: “It’s just not good enough, is it?

“You would think they (Glebe) have just won the World Cup with the way they’re going in there - but there’s still 15 (league) games to go. We know that we weren’t at the races today.

“There were a few individuals that had good games but, for some reason, we never really turned up. Fair play to them, they have got the result.

“We will just dust ourselves down again for Tuesday (at Corinthian) but I expected more from us.”

Glebe broke the deadlock just three minutes after the restart as striker Philpot was inexplicably left unmarked at the back post to nod in a Jason Banton free-kick for his 18th goal of the season.

Warrilow admitted: “Obviously, I was fuming that there was a free header. We have got the tallest team in the world and the first goal is from a free-kick.

“We know what he (Philpot) is like. We gave him a chance and he took it!

“Our overall game, the touch was baggy, our choice of pass was poor, and I thought the front two weren’t at the races. The midfield three were a little bit far away.

“But it’s football. I cannot go over the top with it.

“We made a great start at Rusthall (winning 2-1 last weekend) but we didn’t turn up today and I feel like rubbish.”

Warrilow’s men initially flew out of the blocks. Strikers Stefan Payne and Warren Mfula failed to convert their early opportunities, though.

The new boss said: “They’re the fine margins.

“I felt Stefan should have been setting someone, rather than going for a back-heel. There was the parry and we weren't there for the tap-in. Then, I think Woz (Mfula) had one and Stefan put another one over the bar.

“The chances were there but, at the same time, we came in at half-time and it was 0-0.”

Faversham captain Connor Essam came off in the second half, shortly after a collision with goalkeeper Nathan Edwards, while midfielder Nathan Wood also had to be replaced.

Warrilow explained: “It was Connor’s head so, obviously, he needed to come off.

“Nathan wasn’t feeling well at all, so that’s why he came off. I thought he was one of our best players.

“I certainly wouldn’t have taken him off.”

Town, without a home win since December 9, visit promotion rivals Corinthian in a rearranged Challenge Cup Quarter-Final clash on Tuesday.
