Faversham fighter Alex Branson-Cole to box at York Hall but says he won't be overawed by the occasion

Alex Branson-Cole is set to be fighting at York Hall this Saturday - but insists he won’t be overawed by the occasion.

Branson-Cole will feature in his third professional bout in Bethnal Green, London, looking to make it three wins from three against Jordan Graham.

The roofer, the first professional fighter to come out of Faversham since Tiggy Burney in 1959, has taken the bout on short notice but says he will be up for the fight.

He said: “I have been working hard. I’m always in the gym, working, just in case anything does come up.

“I want to stay busy so it’s ideal for me to stay in the gym, really.

“This fight has come up so I have taken it - I’m just trying to juggle my work and my boxing at the moment.

“It’s at York Hall. It’s a great venue but, to me, it’s just another venue.

“I will just celebrate there and take it all in after I win!”

The fight had been due to take place last weekend - which would have clashed with The Hop Festival in Faversham - and Branson-Cole concedes it’s not been quite as easy to sell tickets this time.

He said: “They have not been too great, to be honest, where it’s short notice and changing things around because it was going to be on September 3.

“But ticket sales are going as well as they could. I would say I still have 45 or 50 people coming - hopefully more will jump on board. We have got a coach going up there.

“It’s not loads but all support is good support, it’s all appreciated.

"I have just got to focus on the night and give them a good show.”

Branson-Cole, who earlier this year penned a three-year contract with Joe Elfidh and promotions company Boxing Connected, had hoped to either make his third pro fight an eight-round or 10-round contest - but he couldn’t make that happen as he, instead, faces Graham.

“I’m going to do another four-rounder. Hopefully, I can go for an eight-rounder in November,” he said.

“I will be boxing again in early November so, hopefully, I can do that then. But, for now, my opponent is from London and it’s just something to keep me busy.

“He’s a bit smaller than me but a lot of them [middleweights] are. I’m good with my weight and just very professional about it.

“I’m excited for the rest of the year as I try to finish on a big high and continue to push forwards in the rankings.”
