Hythe climbed to fourth in Bostik South with victory over Kent rivals Faversham on Tuesday night.
Kieron Campbell was excellent in the second half against his former club, scoring one goal and setting up another.
That was after Dean Grant, another ex-Lilywhite, had broken the deadlock in added time at the end of the first half.
Faversham were missing Matt Bourne, Carl Rook and Liam King while the Cannons were boosted by the return of Dave Cook at centre-half.
After a cagey opening quarter, Hythe began to get on top although they found a young Lilywhites defence in determined mood.
The hosts made several brave blocks and got their heads to a number of crosses but every time they cleared the ball, it came straight back. Faversham were badly missing Rook's hold-up play and they were fortunate Hythe created so little in the opening 45 minutes.
Grant looped a header tamely into Simon Overland's gloves from Campbell's left-wing cross and Ryan Palmer lashed a shot wide when the home side failed to clear a corner.
At the other end, Danny Walder's free-kick reached Oliver Lee but his header cleared the crossbar.
This was not a Kent derby dominated by feisty challenges yet four players had their names taken by an officious referee who could have done more to let the game flow.
The last of these was George Monger, who appeared to win the ball yet conceded a free-kick and was shown a yellow card two minutes into stoppage-time.
Worse was to follow from a Faversham point of view as Grant met the free-kick with a glancing header which carried the ball into the back of the net.
Hythe looked to press home their advantage at the start of the second half but Faversham, having spent so much of the first pinned back in their own half, started to scrap and win more second balls in midfield.
Luke Griffiths did well to wriggle into space on the edge of the box and fire a shot just over as the home side threatened an equaliser.
But after Ben Wilson had forced a good save from Overland at the other end, Campbell burst into the box and squared for Ryan Johnson to make it 2-0.
Campbell, by now giving the home side all sorts of problems, raided down the left wing again and Jordan Johnson-Palmer almost found the top corner with a well-struck volley.
Faversham were still battling and Will Godmon had to pull off a smart save to keep out Ryan Cheek's header from a corner. Mark Lovell then made his way into the box and almost set up substitute Rhys Abioye.
But it was game over when Hythe counter-attacked 14 minutes from time and Campbell cut inside before drilling a low shot inside Overland's near post.
Sid Sollis shot over when Faversham were caught napping at a free-kick and the visitors had a golden chance to make it 4-0 in the third of four added minutes at the end of the game.
The referee awarded a penalty when Sollis went down in the box but Jerson Dos Santos smashed his spot-kick against the crossbar.
