Makhosini Ryan Khanye has been tipped to take his career to a higher level by Faversham Town joint-manager Danny Chapman.
Khanye, known as ‘Ryan’ at Salters Lane, has played in all six of the Lilywhites’ games across all competitions so far this season, scoring a 90th minute winner in the league against Hythe.
The 23-year-old started out at Brentford before spending time on the books of Bristol City, Erith & Belvedere, Greenwich Borough FC, Staines Town and Whitehawk.
“He’s a decent player. I really like him,” said Chapman.
“He finds the game easy because he’s got plenty of ability, it’s the same for Mitch Chapman, he finds the game easy. But sometimes they overdo things.
“If they simplified their game a little bit more they’d be playing at a higher level, I know that for a fact and put my hand on my heart and say that.
“He’s got plenty of ability. Sometimes he runs with it when he should pass it and passes it when he should run with it.
“He’s only a young fella so he’s still got a lot to learn.”
Chapman believes life at Faversham offers Khanye an open stage on which to express himself and continue his development, on the condition that he fulfils the desired work ethic.
He added: “He’ll get plenty of opportunity to do what he likes in the team, as long as he puts a shift in I don’t mind him losing the ball, it’s human nature.
“It’s about doing the right things at the right time.
“It’s frustrating sometimes, you think ‘if you’d just simplify the game up’.
“I played at a decent level, Phil (Miles) played at a decent level and boys watching the game do think that if he just simplified it he could play a lot higher.”
Khanye has plied his trade predominantly as a left-back throughout his career so far, but has seemingly emerged as an attacking weapon at Faversham.
Chapman explained: “I like him up front, because he’s got plenty of pace and that’s one thing defenders don’t like playing against.
“You know what you’re going to get when you play against a big man, but if you’re playing against somebody with pace you don’t want them running at you all the time because you’ve got to keep turning and facing your own goal and there’s nothing worse than that as a defender.
“We’ve got a little bit of pace up front this year so hopefully we’re frightening teams.
“When we’re getting in those areas we’re asking the boys to be positive, be direct and take people on. We’ve seen a few signs of it but we want more.”
Faversham are scheduled to host Sittingbourne on Saturday before welcoming VCD Athletic to their place on Tuesday evening.
They will be without 18-year-old goalkeeper Harry Day, who has signed for Ramsgate.
