James Collins has continued his rebuilding job at Faversham by signing a former Football League midfielder.
He’s brought in ex-Cardiff City man Solomon Taiwo from Isthmian South East rivals Three Bridges and he’s set to make his debut at Burgess Hill this Saturday.
Town boss Collins said: “I’m looking forward to working with Solomon.
“He has Football League experience at Cardiff and he’s someone I kept tabs on when I was at Chatham.
“We had a chat and managed to get it done.
“We couldn’t get the paperwork done in time for Tuesday (0-0 draw with Ramsgate) but he’ll be in the squad on Saturday.”
Faversham have also signed former Sitingbourne and Chatham left-back Connor Lee.
A player well-known to Collins and assistant manager Nick Davis, he can also operate on the left wing, in midfield or in central defence.
His versatility will be an asset for the Lilywhites as the new manager puts his plan into action.
Collins, who’s signed 10 players since taking charge, is keen to make the most of this season having learned from his previous experience of taking a job mid-campaign.
He said: “That’s my one regret from Chatham that I went in there and let that season peter out.
“I messed about too much and used it as an experiment.
“Cray Valley finished sixth that season and won the league the following season.
“At the time I didn’t see any difference between finishing sixth and 14th but Cray had momentum and it helped them.
“I’ve learned from that and what I’m trying to do is bring in people I think will be right for now and for the future.
“I know what I want, what works and what doesn’t, and we’re trying to get things in place this season.
“I don’t think anyone’s turned us down yet.
“I’ve not brought anyone in who’s come for the money, which is a big thing.
“I understand people want to be paid but I only want people who want to be here.”
Faversham travel to Burgess Hill on the back of two goalless draws, with Collins taking his side back to basics against Whyteleafe and Ramsgate.
He said: “We were awful against Whitstable the week before and since then we’ve worked really hard going through the absolute basics of what we want.
“It isn’t the best to watch but we’ve had to strip things back and start again.
“We need to add a bit of quality in the final third but that will come.”
