Faversham Town are in the market for another forward as they look to complement their youth with experience.
Danny Chapman admits he and fellow joint-manager Phil Miles are actively seeking to recruit a goalscorer having spent some time assessing their squad.
Having injected welcomed pace up top over the summer, the Lilywhites are now pursuing a different dimension.
Chapman: “We’ve got a smallish squad, we’ve looked at it for a while now and had a good look about. We’re going to try and freshen a few things up, we’re looking at players and ideally we’d like a forward.
“Ryan Huckle being out injured hasn’t helped either but we’ve been okay defensively.
“Everyone wants a recognised centre-forward but they cost money. We want someone a bit different, a target man, a link man, somebody with a bit more experience.
“People won’t play every week and players fall out of form so we’re actively looking.
“We haven’t put all the players on contracts this season, it’s completely up to them to improve and learn.
“When players become available you’ve got a tough decision to make, you want players to improve but if they aren’t there’s obviously something wrong.
“We got caught in the situation last year when all the players were on contracts and we couldn’t change it, this year we haven’t done that.”
Just five points separate 12th-placed Faversham and fifth-placed Chichester City in Isthmian South East.
In the eyes of Chapman, that gap could and perhaps should be even smaller.
He added: “I do feel we should be six or seven points better off.
“I think we should have got the three points against Guernsey, we should have been out of sight in the first half against Chichester, we had good chances at Hastings and could have got a draw and should have got something at home to VCD.”
It was a similar story for Faversham at the weekend as mistakes contributed to their 3-1 defeat to Chertsey in the FA Trophy.
Chapman said: “It’s individual errors and game management, we’re young and we’re going to learn but we’ve got to learn quickly.”
