After six defeats in eight games, Faversham boss Ray Turner admits he is not untouchable, but says he hopes his success over the past four seasons has earned him the chance to turn things around.
Saturday’s FA Trophy preliminary round defeat at home to Bury Town was the Lilywhites’ third 1-0 loss in a row, but Turner insists the results do not tell the full story.
He said: “Obviously we have got a problem, we are not winning games and we are not scoring goals.
“That said I think there’s only one game this season – against Herne Bay – that we have deserved to lose. The rest of them we have managed to dominate but without getting anything.
“Last week we played better at Three Bridges than we did last year, when we won 4-1, but we ended up losing 1-0. It is difficult to explain.”
Turner accepted it was “arguably my most difficult period as a manager” since being appointed ahead of the 2011/12 season.
He said: “I do still remember when I first took over, it was a tricky start, trying to build a team after the break-up of a settled group.”
He added: “Personally a run like this might get you down, but I remain proud of the boys and what they have been and continue to do for the club.
“I try to stay pretty even – not too high when things are going well and not too low when they’re not.
“I don’t think any manager is untouchable, but I’d like to think I have done a good job here and shown that I am capable of doing the job. That said, the ultimate responsibility rests with me.
“We need to start getting results, and Dorking at home on Saturday (3pm) is a perfect time to start.”
