Faversham Town manager Sammy Moore says only maximum points from their five remaining Isthmian South East games this season will give them any chance of survival

Faversham must be perfect to stand any hope of an unlikely escape - literally!

That’s the verdict of boss Sammy Moore as they head into their final five Isthmian South East fixtures of the season and look to respond after their 1-0 derby defeat to Sittingbourne.

They are eight points away from third-bottom Haywards Heath ahead of this Saturday’s trip to Beckenham.

“It’s going to hurt this week and probably play on our minds,” he said.

“But when Saturday comes, we’ve got to try and win a game. We’ve got to go and get five wins.

“If we don’t get five wins, it’s going to be tough so we’ll keep fighting and keep everyone together.

“But it was never in our hands, let’s be honest.

When we first came here, we started on seven points and everyone else probably had 23 or 24 points. We were always playing catch-up.

“The last nine or 10 games, we’ve had a right go all the way to the end.

"I don’t think they [Sittingbourne] were better than us and I don’t think Lancing were better than us [in a 2-1 loss], but I think fine margins in games have cost us when we’ve needed to be watertight.”

The Lilywhites suffered a 3-0 defeat to Beckenham in January and will certainly need to put on a better showing this time around against opposition going for promotion but who suffered a 5-1 weekend loss at Sheppey.

Moore added: “Beckenham was probably one of our worst performances. We were still searching for our team then.

“But every team we play now, they’re in a game. They’re not better than us.

“We’ll keep fighting and see where it takes us.

"This club is on a journey. We’ve bought into the journey and loved every minute of it as staff.

“When do you ever see a club second-from-bottom having a real buzz around the place? Not often.

“It’s normally doom and gloom but that’s not the case. I’ve seen the work going on behind-the-scenes all week to get this place right.

"It’s been incredible.”
