Finn Smart-Weeden described his weekend racing as “mega” after taking part for the first time in the British Junior Supersport Championship.
The 13-year-old, aboard Santander Salt Tag Racing’s Kawasaki, is the youngest rider in the championship and needed special permission to compete, after missing the cut-off date for his age.
He achieved his realistic goal of not finishing last at Donington Park and managed to pick up places during both races, with 29th and 25th place finishes, starting 34th and 33rd on the grid respectively.
The weekend was a tough one as bike issues meant he had to retire on lap one of Friday practice and managed only nine laps in qualifying.
He was learning the track in race one after the team sorted out the faulty electronics. He improved his lap time by three seconds during the races.
