There is still more to come from red-hot Faversham, boss Tommy Warrilow has warned.
The title-chasing Southern Counties East League Premier Division Lilywhites delivered a thumping 5-1 win at Bearsted on Tuesday.
That came after they had raced into a five-goal first-half lead in last weekend’s 6-0 FA Vase victory at Sheerwater through two-goal striker Johan Caney-Bryan, Matt Newman, Nathan Wood, Frannie Collin and Tashi-Jay Kwayie.
While Warrilow’s troops sit second in the table, they are only six points behind early pace-setters VCD and have two fixtures in hand on them.
Warrilow said: “To score 11 goals in two games and to let one goal in, that’s been excellent.
“The journey on Saturday was a nightmare, so the preparations weren’t ideal.
"They were a side that only lost 2-1 to AFC Whyteleafe last Tuesday and everyone knows how strong AFC Whyteleafe are. But we were really good on Saturday.
“Then to go to Bearsted - which everyone knows is a tough place to go - and beat them 5-1, we made a bit of a statement, really.
“The good thing is there’s still a lot more we can do better.
"Regardless of their age and experience, we’re always looking to push and take people that extra yard.
“But there’s no way I will not let the players and the fans enjoy a 5-1 victory at the same time.
“It’s been, not just a good week, but a good start to the season.
“The only competition we have gone out of is the FA Cup.”
Caney-Bryan put Town in front at Bearsted in the ninth minute and, although the Bears levelled two minutes later, a goal from Wood and midfielder Sam Hasler’s penalty put them well clear by half-time.
Playmaker Wood then struck again after the restart before substitute Stefan Payne put the icing on the cake. Payne, like Hasler, made his 50th club appearance in midweek.
On his side’s current clinical nature, Warrilow, who was extremely complimentary of Bearsted’s grass pitch, said: “That was the key on Tuesday night.
“Bearsted are a good side and they knocked the ball around well so we changed our shape a little bit to nullify that. When we did break, we had to be ruthless - and we were.
“The attitude from everyone has been excellent. There’s no moping about.
"The bench was strong and there were also two players not involved.
“Like I said to the lads after the game, ‘Well done - but there’s still stuff that we can do better’.”
Ex-Tonbridge player Wood struggled to find his best form for Faversham after he rejoined last term but already has six goals this time around.
Warrilow said: “Woody, even though we have played him there a couple of times, isn’t really a forward.
"But any manager will tell you that, if you have got someone up there, causing havoc, that’s just as important.
“We have spoken to him and Kieron Campbell and told them to just enjoy their game.
“But at the same time, if Nathan isn’t confident now, he never will be!
“His work-rate is second-to-none and he’s creating goals, as well as scoring them.
"I’m pleased for Woody as an individual. He has got six goals for the season.
"Hopefully, his target is to get on double figures and just build from there.”
The Lilywhites host Corinthian in a repeat of last season’s play-off semi-final - which they lost on penalties - in the league on Saturday.
Warrilow said: “We know what Corinthian will be all about.
“I expect them to be right up there again this year.
“They have got some good people up there and I know that we will be in for a really tough game against them.”
