Faversham Town return to Southern Counties East League Premier Division summit thanks to 5-0 win over Holmesdale; In-form Whitstable Town earn 2-1 comeback away success

Faversham Town returned to the Southern Counties East League Premier Division summit on Saturday.

In a topsy-turvy two-horse title race, it’s Tommy Warrilow’s Town team, which are now firmly in command - a point ahead of second-placed VCD, having also played a league fixture less.

They beat mid-table Holmesdale 5-0 at Salters Lane.

A goal in either half from Danny Parish were sandwiched by playmaker Nathan Wood’s first-half brace and an effort from fellow forward Johan Caney-Bryan after the interval.

VCD drew for the second game in a row - having also recently been docked a point for fielding an ineligible player - in their top-three home match against Punjab United.

Goals from Liam Gillies and Bethel Gboda had them 2-0 in front inside 22 minutes, only for Jack Hopkins and Wayne Bushell to net in either half for Chipie Sian’s resilient side, who earned a share of the spoils to mark their manager’s 350th game in charge.

Red-hot Whitstable warmed up for their two-legged FA Vase semi-final by moving into the top five through a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory at play-off rivals Larkfield & New Hythe.

Trailing to a Matt Day penalty and with player-manager Jamie Coyle bringing himself off after he had been sin-binned in the first half, young Dartford loanee Ashdon Day equalised in the 62nd minute.

Substitute Nathan Jeche won it for Whitstable with three minutes to play, meaning they are unbeaten in 16 matches in all competitions.

Larkfield & New Hythe also ended the match with 10 men after midfielder Ben Davisson picked up two cautions in quick succession in a dress rehearsal for next month’s Kent Senior Trophy final at Maidstone United.

Sixth-placed Rusthall are on their own impressive unbeaten run which continued as they twice came from behind in a four-goal game at Corinthian.

A first-half double from Alexander Jack Billings was cancelled out by a first-half goal from Jack Lyons and Yassin Fares’ penalty after the interval.

Lydd moved out of the relegation zone with a 4-0 home victory against Bearsted.

Tyler Sterling put them into a second-minute advantage before half-time substitute Luke Burdon got an 11-minute hat-trick - only to be substituted off again, shortly after team-mate Nico Cotton had been dismissed.

Indeed, Cotton was sent off for handling on his team’s line, with goalkeeper Connor Collins saving the resultant penalty.

Hollands & Blair edged out Kennington 2-1 at Homelands.

Ian Draycott and Josh Brooker left a goal from Ton man Tom Scorer in first-half injury time a mere consolation.

Basement boys Lordswood squandered a lead in their 2-1 loss to Tunbridge Wells.

Elliott Moore put them ahead on 18 minutes, but Regan Corker bagged a second-half brace for the away team, before Elliott Duncan was dismissed for a second caution for Lords late on.

Substitute Freddie Baker got the only goal as Erith & Belvedere were victorious at Sutton Athletic.
