A familiar face to some in Faversham’s new-look squad now plays for their FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round opponents.
The Lilywhites visit Southern Combination Premier Division Eastbourne Town this Saturday, a week after their push for Southern Counties East Premier Division promotion began with a 3-0 victory at VCD.
Among Eastbourne’s ranks these days is Frankie Chappell, a player fondly remembered at Folkestone - as are fellow defenders Matt Newman and Josh Vincent, who have moved from Cheriton Road to Salters Lane.
Town boss Sammy Moore, a former Folkestone midfielder, said: “I know a little bit about Eastbourne.
“They’ve got Frankie Chappell down there who I know from his Folkestone days. They’re quite young.
“It’s a tough draw - there’s no easy games in the FA Cup, there’s no easy games in the FA Vase. But we will get a report on them, see what their weaknesses are and try to exploit them on the day.”
But those hoping to see Chappell come up against Vincent, Newman, Moore and co may be disappointed.
Moore added: “I actually think Frankie Chappell is away for that game, so I don’t think he will be available for them.
“The main thing for us this year is making sure our mentality and attitude are right. If we turn up, I think it will be about us.”
The winners of the tie will pocket £1,125.
Against VCD, striker Gary Lockyer and captain Connor Essam helped Town establish a two-goal advantage by half-time and, despite the hosts getting a penalty, VCD failed to convert and the Lilywhites got the only goal after the restart.
Player-boss Sammy Moore set up loanee Sheppey forward Jefferson Aibangbee late on.
