Top scorer Emmanuel Oluwasemo thinks Faversham should be aiming to finish in the play-offs next season.

The Lilywhites are up to 12th in Isthmian South East ahead of the final weekend of the campaign after back-to-back wins over Whitstable and Ashford.

Injury-hit Town had been battling relegation earlier in the campaign but are finishing this season with a flourish, having taken 14 points from their last seven matches.

Oluwasemo conceded: “We have been riddled with injuries left, right and centre. We have done well with what has been going on.

“But we are definitely capable of much, much better.

“We should be aiming for a minimum of finishing in the play-offs, in my opinion, next season.”

Oluwasemo scored the only goal at The Belmont - his 12th this campaign - as Faversham beat the Oystermen on Saturday, with Whitstable's Harry Goodger sent off against his old club.

Town then won their last home game this season at Salters Lane on Monday, earning a 3-1 victory against second-placed Ashford via two-goal Marcus Elliott and on-loan Gillingham midfielder Ethan Smith. The visitors had midfielder Adem Ramadan dismissed late on.

The game saw the return of midfielder Stefan Wright after he had missed recent fixtures due to personal reasons while Calvin Sedenu has replaced Jono Richardson at the back for Faversham.

Oluwasemo reflected: “Whitstable was a tough match because it was a local derby, so both teams were at it from the start.

“It was not a very pretty game but it was always going to be defined by a moment of magic and, luckily enough, that came from me! It was a lovely moment and a big moment for the fans.

"Monday against Ashford was a very good game. Obviously, they are second in the league. We drew there earlier in the season [2-2 on New Year’s Day] so this time around we had belief we should be able to win.

“To be honest, we started off pretty well and their goal was against the run of play. But we didn’t let that put our heads down.

“It took another moment of magic from Ethan Smith for us to equalise. That gave us the momentum.

"We dominated the game, really, and played some really good football.”

The Lilywhites are at fifth-placed Cray Valley this Saturday, one of Faversham boss James Collins' former teams.

“We will be looking to go out and get three points and, hopefully, I can get another goal,” Oluwasemo added.

“We will be looking to leave it all out on the pitch.

"But it should be a tough game.”
