Jarred Trespaderne has signed for Faversham Town.
The midfielder reunites with Lilywhites manager Tommy Warrilow and No.2 Alex O’Brien, who worked with Trespaderne during their time in charge of Ashford.
Trespaderne joined ahead of title-chasing Town’s 1-0 Southern Counties East Premier Division defeat against Larkfield & New Hythe and, while he was ineligible to play in midweek, he will be available as the Lilywhites aim to bounce back at home to Stansfeld on Saturday.
Warrilow said: “Jarred gives you energy.
"When he became available, we felt it was something that we don’t have. Unfortunately, he wasn’t eligible to play on Tuesday but he’ll be around for Saturday.
“We’re looking at bringing in players if the right one becomes available. We’re not as interested in ‘big names’. I’ve had Jarred before. I know his capabilities.
"He will give everything every single week.”
Trespaderne is one of five players expected to return for Faversham this weekend.
Winger Kieron Campbell came off with an injury in last Saturday’s 1-0 FA Vase home first-round victory against British Airways, which came courtesy of an early goal from striker Johan Caney-Bryan, as ex-captain Connor Essam made a one-off return for the club.
Among those missing in midweek were forwards Tashi-Jay Kwayie and Dan Thompson, alongside defender Ben Gorham.
“All five should be available,” confirmed Warrilow. “KC, that was my decision, even though he ended up coming on in Tuesday’s game in the end.
“He sort of felt his calf. I said, if he plays and pulls his calf, it’s not a one-game thing. I spoke to the physio about it before making that decision.
“Everyone wants to play, but I think he knows it was probably the right decision rather than putting him through another 90 minutes after he had come off with a calf injury on Saturday.”
Town’s match against Larkfield appeared set to finish goalless, only for substitute Tyler Ibe to net a late winning goal.
Warrilow reflected: “I said to the lads that I just felt they were physically stronger than us.
“They’re a lot of teams like them in the league. They’re energetic, quite direct and trying to play off second balls.
“It was not a game of a lot of chances. We had some, they had some.
“I don’t remember Jacob (Russell, Faversham’s goalkeeper) having too many saves to make. We could have been a bit more inventive but you need to give the opposition credit because they didn’t let us.
“The goal sort of summed it up where it was a bit scrappy, and it was one of those nights where we might have gone all night and not scored.
“You have to take the rough with the smooth.
"But also, you need to give Larkfield credit. They’re a good side and played well.”
It was a first league loss this campaign for Town, who missed the chance to close the gap on frontrunners VCD, who lost 3-2 at Punjab United.
“Without this sounding big-headed or arrogant, we have not lost many games,” said Warrilow. “So, it does hit you.
"I don’t just forget it but losing games does happen in football. We just need to get back on it on Saturday.
"If we only lose once in the league every 12 games, that’s not a bad statistic.”
Forward Kieron Smith became the latest youth-team player to get a first-team chance for Faversham in their midweek defeat, coming off the substitutes’ bench late on.
“Kieron has been working his socks off for the under-23s and scoring goals,” noted Warrilow, who also praised the way the game was refereed.
