There’s a brief break from league matters for Faversham - whose title charge looks on track.
Sammy Moore’s Lilywhites reached the quarter-season mark in their Southern Counties East Premier Division campaign with a 5-2 home win against Hollands & Blair last weekend before they won 2-1 at Bearsted on Tuesday.
Faversham haven’t quite had everything their own way and were dealt early-season setbacks with defeats at Corinthian and Lydd.
Apart from those matches, though, they’re yet to drop a league point and top the table ahead of this Saturday’s Kent Senior Trophy tie at home to Kent County League Kent United (1pm).
Manager Moore said: “It was our first double on Tuesday.
“We’re delighted to get six points against them because I think they’ve just given us our hardest game all season, to be honest.
“There was great support from the fans. They travelled in their numbers. I’m glad we could send them home happy.
“We have got a break from the league now. I said before the game, it’s a bit like a quarter of the season is done. We have an unbelievable return of 27 points after 11 games.
“But we’ll keep grounded, keep working hard and we look forward to a little break from the league now.”
Striker Warren Mfula headed Faversham in front against Bearsted before midfielder Billy Bennett doubled their tally, only for Ollie Freeman to set up a tense finale.
Moore reflected: “It’s a massive win. I was delighted with the boys.
“They had to show the other side of their game. Stuff went against us, we had to play with 10 men for 10 minutes with a sin-bin, and we had to dig in at the end.
“But I thought, at times, we played some great stuff and created some good chances.
“We just lacked that ball in the final third to really kill them off. It’s eight league wins in a row. No matter what league you’re playing in, that’s a great achievement. But we have got to tick them off as they come.
“Fair play to Bearsted, I think they’re a good team, good energy, and play the right way – and they’re well coached.
“I’m just delighted with the three points and delighted with everyone in that dressing room because it was a massive shift.”
With the score 1-0, the Lilywhites had to cope with 10 men after frontman Stefan Payne was sin-binned.
“I think they tried to get us sent off or booked all night - but that’s what teams are going to do,” said Moore. “They can’t match us in every department.
“But fair play to them, they’re a good side and did well.”
Mfula was set up for his header by winger Kieron Campbell, among the goals against Hollands & Blair alongside two-goal Payne, fellow winger Ashley Miller and substitute Ollie Gray.
Moore said: “Warren, on another day on Saturday, he comes away with six goals.
“But it wasn’t his night and it happens. Strikers go through spells like that.
“I said ‘Keep getting in those areas because you’ll get the chance’. I was delighted he got his goal in midweek. He was excellent and led the line really well with Stefan.
“Warren’s a big player for us and he’ll score goals at this level - and the level above.
“It’s nice to see KC hitting a bit of form. He’s a constant threat on that left side. I think we have got the best two one versus one wingers in the league.
“We could go through the whole team and say how well they’ve done - but it’s a team effort.”
Town have moved to a back three with left-sided defenders Jake McIntyre and Matt Parsons sidelined.
“Parsons is probably about three weeks away,” Moore revealed.
“He’s had a scan. He has a small tear in his meniscus. Macca is probably a similar time-frame.
“He’s struggling with his knee. He felt it when we played Sutton Athletic. It was quite hard ground.
“These two weeks will probably allow us to get them a little bit closer.”
Kent United have won four and lost six of their Kent County League Premier Division encounters this term and enter the Kent Senior Trophy.
Moore revealed: “We will change the team. We’ll rest the ones we think that need a rest.
“There will be an opportunity for a large number of under-23s to come in.
“The Ollie Grays, Jefferson Aibangbees and England Kurtis’ will come in and have the chance to put in a good performance and knock on our door saying ‘I want to be in the team’. It’s nice.
“When you have got a little bit of a break, it’s nice to go into that cup game with a good feeling. It’s a chance to get into the next round.
“That’s a competition that we want to win.”
