Faversham are set to welcome back top scorer Tashi-Jay Kwayie for their Southern Counties East title run-in.
Kwayie has been away on a modelling job for the past few weeks but manager Tommy Warrilow expects him to be available for the home game against Holmesdale this Saturday (3pm).
It’s a big boost for the Lilywhites boss, who also has recent addition Tommie Fagg back from injury.
“It’s like having two new players,” said Warrilow, whose side beat Sutton Athletic 3-0 at Salters Lane last weekend thanks to goals from Ben Gorham, Johan Caney-Bryan and Sam Hasler.
“Where Tashi’s been away for a few weeks, him and Faggy come in fresh like new signings.
“Tashi’s been away working, everyone knows that’s the risk you take with him, but he’s been a miss because his contribution to the goal tally is massive and his all-round game.
“We brought Faggy in two or three weeks ago.
“He’d been out injured but we knew there was no way he wasn’t going to play again this season, so we’ve acted on it.
“He got released by Hastings, I’ve had him before at Ashford and wanted him on board for the run-in.
“A fit Faggy is a fantastic player. It’ll be nice to see him on the pitch, as well as getting Tashi back.”
The pair’s return gives Warrilow something of a selection headache.
It’s a nice problem to have, however, with the squad well aware of the situation.
“Competition for places is high,” said Warrilow.
“I’ve said to all the boys it’s important we stick together, it’s not about individuals, it’s about the club and achieving our goals.
“Sometimes people will be sitting out and sometimes they won’t. That’s the decisions I’ve got to make.
“On Saturday there were four changes from the previous week, which wasn’t a reflection on the result, it was looking to freshen things up a little bit.”
Faversham briefly went top of the table on goal difference this week after title rivals VCD had a point deducted.
But the Vickers moved back to the summit with a 1-1 draw at Corinthian on Tuesday night
The Lilywhites, who have a game in hand on their rivals, just need to concentrate on themselves.
Warrilow said: “We’ve got to keep going.
“We’ve had a better season than last year but we’ve still got nothing to show for it yet.
“We’ve got to stay positive, not panic and just keep trying to get results every game.
“We’ve got seven games to go and they will soon fly by.
“We’re supposed to win every game, aren’t we, but this league is a lot more competitive than it was last year, regarding the players that are coming into it.
“You can see there’s a better type of player coming in because clubs are looking to get out of the league and build and we’re no different.
“After last year’s play-off loss, the ultimate goal was to go one better and win the league.”
Faversham were good value for their win against a Sutton side who finished with 10 men.
They face the same opponents again in a rearranged away game on Wednesday (7.45pm).
“It was a good performance, a professional performance,” said Warrilow.
“They were down to 10 men when we got our third but it was important we didn’t get sloppy and start doing bad things.
“We kept the ball well and moved it about.”
