Manager Ray Turner is disappointed youngster Jack Harris has left Faversham Town to join Ryman League, Division 1 South rivals Hastings United.
The Salters Lane boss was looking forward to working with the former Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone striker who hit 18 goals last season again, but admitted Harris “got an offer we couldn’t get close to.”
Turner said: “I don’t think Jack is the finished article yet.
“We looked after him well and helped in his development and I am sure he will go on to be a top player.
“We had plans for him this season to achieve that goal and I would have liked him to have stayed longer, so we could help him on that path to a higher level.”
Turner added: “Several of my players have received offers doubling the expenses we pay but we will stick to our guidelines.
“What others do is their business but there is a an awful lot of temptation out there, with clubs willing to pay over-inflated prices, borne out of a bit of desperation.”
Defender Aidan Sherlock has also left the club, moving home to Essex but Turner believes he is considering an offer from Division 1 North side Cray Wanderers.
