Ray Turner says Faversham are entering the final straight in their Ryman League Division 1 South title race, and the finish line will arrive sooner than his players realise.
Town are joint-top of the table, only out of first on goal difference, though rivals Burgess Hill do have four games in hand and remain unbeaten.
Lilywhites boss Turner said: “Momentum is a huge thing. There might be 17 games left but they will quickly start running out.
“We are playing a few in-form teams in the next few games in South Park, Whitstable and Chipstead, but with Burgess Hill only having a couple of games scheduled in that time it means we have got the opportunity to go top again. We have just got to keep going for as long as we can.
“I’ve said to the players we have a responsibility to make it as uncomfortable as possible.”
It took the Lilywhites 65 minutes to break the deadlock against Three Bridges on Saturday, but when they did they didn’t look back, cruising to a 3-0 win – their fifth in a row.
Town have netted 15 goals and conceded just four in that five-game run, scoring three times in four of those fixtures.
Turner admitted: “I was quite relaxed with half an hour to go. Of course we should have been a couple of goals up long before that but I am full of belief in us scoring goals. We have been scoring three in a game quite regularly too.
“I couldn’t be happier with the way things are going around the club at the moment. If you want entertainment then you couldn’t ask for more. I’d pay to watch this side play.”
Turner is hoping to include a new signing in his line-up for the visit to eight-placed South Park (3pm), who have several games in hand themselves in their quest to reach the fifth and final play-off spot.
Meanwhile teenage striker Kieran Oliver followed his late strike for the first-team on Saturday with both goals as the club’s under-21 side won 2-1 at Maidstone United in the quarter-finals of the Kent Intermediate Cup on Monday.
Turner said: “It’s not just Kieran, though I am delighted for him, it took a time and a lot of work to lay the foundations but we have got a lot of talented players in that side. It bodes well for the whole future of the club – we have high hopes.
“Maidstone are top of Ryman under-21 League South and it’s the first time anyone’s beaten them. It would be nice if we could go on and make the final.”
