Ray Turner says Faversham’s away form has been a key factor in their stuttering Ryman League Division 1 South play-off bid this season.
With Town eight points outside the play-off places with seven games remaining, Turner can’t rule his side out of play-off contention, although Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at South Park meant Town have taken just four points from their last six games, a run they might be left to rue.
He said: “It seems like nobody wants it. We have lost the last two games and the situation has not changed as nobody else is winning.
“We have spluttered through the season at times and never really put together a run at it but it’s frustrating when you think another two wins in those last five or six games and we’d have been right in there.”
Town host Chipstead on Saturday (3pm) but while their home record is among the best in the division, their record of 23 points from 20 games on the road is 10th worst.
Town have not lost at the Shepherd Neame Stadium since November – a run of 11 games – and Turner said: “We have four more home games and it would be good if we can perform in front of our own supporters. We’d like to finish in style for them.
“We have been good at home but in general we have not been good enough away and that will probably be the difference for us this year.”
He added: “We have got to be frank, we have not been good enough and that probably goes for the season as a whole too.
“It’s not over yet, though and we can draw on the experience of last year, we lost back-to-back games against Sittingbourne and East Grinstead at Easter, with few games remaining than we have now.
“All looked forlorn at that time but we managed to turn it around and get there. We can call on that again.
“If not then we may not have reached the dizzy heights of some of the previous seasons but there’s no point being too down.
“There are plenty of other clubs outside the top-five who would have harboured ambitions of winning the title this season.
“The core of our side is young and whatever happens we’ll certainly be back to give it another go next season.”
