Faversham have signed striker Jordan Casey from Canterbury – after a tip-off from his manager.

Lilywhites boss Ray Turner had been looking for a new forward after losing Liam King to Hythe.

City boss Ben Smith was aware and contacted Turner to push Casey’s claims to step back up from Southern Counties East.

Casey, who used to play for Herne Bay, was a scholar at Stoke City before dropping into non-league.

Turner said: “Ben phoned me, said they’d had a seven-dayer in from another Ryman club and recommended him.

“I was able to talk to him without putting seven days in – I’m grateful to Canterbury for that – and Jordan was keen to come here. It’s all well and good looking at his past but it’s time to look to the future.

“It’s always hard for young lads coming out of full-time football and adjusting to non-league but he’s 22 now and he’s got the appetite to push on again. He knows Dean Grant well and I’m sure he’ll fit in.”

Casey could make his debut when the Lilywhites host South Park in the FA Trophy first qualifying round on Saturday (3pm).

Turner said: “We had a good run in the FA Cup this season. It’s a shame it ended when it did but it was the furthest we’ve ever been and we’d like to do the same in the Trophy.

“The ground development has started, there’s a lot going on at Faversham and it would be nice to bring in some prize money. If you get through a game or two, there’s always a chance of drawing a big club.”
