“A small building block for the future."
That was Faversham Town boss Ray Turner’s opinion after the 1-1 draw against 10-man Ramsgate at Salters Lane on Tuesday.
Substitute Stuart King. left out of the starting line-up. following the 2-0 home defeat by Guernsey at the weekend, came off the bench to score the equaliser seven minutes later, after Ian Pulman had fired Rams in front six minutes after the restart.
The visitors also had Aaron Quain sent off later for comments to referee Steve Brown.
Turner said: “It was an improvement on what we had been doing, going back to doing some of the things we do well at this level.
“I thought we looked a threat in the first half as well, but I was disappointed with the goal we conceded.
"I have got an experienced centre half there who should have dealt with Pully better in the channel, it was very avoidable, but we’ll take it and move on. I think we got out of the game what we deserved.
“We could have nicked it, but in terms of where we have been in the last few weeks, it’s a small step forward.
“We have been in a difficult place, with lots of personnel changes due to injuries, we changed the system once because of suspensions - that worked for a week - and we have now gone back to what we know, the players had the energy, and that looked a bit more like my side, difficult to play against, and hard to beat.”
Turner confirmed that Ramsgate lodged a seven-day approach for Wayne Wilson last week.
