Faversham are waiting to hear what punishment they may face for the brawl which erupted after their win over Hythe.
There were ugly scenes after the final whistle at Salters Lane on Tuesday with players from both sides piling in.
Faversham joint-manager Phil Miles admitted: “It wasn’t nice. Where it started and how it ended up getting the way it did, I wasn’t too sure.
“I was shaking hands with our substitutes and staff, turned round and it was all kicking off.
“It’s not what we’re about but our players saw some of their team-mates being punched and they defended them. Hythe will probably say the same. The ref was there watching everything so we’ll have to wait and see what report he puts in.
“It could have been a bit of frustration from them. Maybe they came down expecting to win. It was unsavoury. No one likes to see that and I’m sure there will be mud-throwing from both sides.
“We can’t hide the fact it happened. We can only apologise to anyone who witnessed it and if the FA decide there’s going to be some punishment, we’ll have to take that on the chin.
“Some people were trying to calm it down but tensions were running high.
“Because we played so well and they didn’t get a sniff all game, I don’t know whether they were frustrated.”
Faversham are now three games unbeaten and Miles hailed Tuesday’s 2-1 win as their best performance since he took charge with Danny Chapman.
He said: “If you win three or four games, you start pushing yourselves up. We’ve got Greenwich (at home) on Saturday and it’s going to be another tough game but if we can win it, we’ll be nine points clear of them.
“The league table now looks a lot better for us but we just need to worry about what we’re doing.
“We’re still looking to bring players in as well. Hopefully people will look at us now and think we’re a good option.
“We need another forward – but we’ve been saying that for three or four months!”
