Folkestone Academy praises students as 70 are off to uni

The headteacher of an academy school has sung pupils' praise for an "excellent set of results" this year.

The wait is over for Folkestone Academy students at the Glassworks Sixth Form Centre, who today collected their A-Level and BTEC results.

Headteacher Andrew Milliken, said: "Folkestone Academy is delighted that the hard work of students and staff has yet again produced another excellent set of results.

"We are confident that our students are now equipped with the qualifications, skills and experiences needed to continue their studies at university or to successfully enter the workplace.

"I would like to take this opportunity to wish them well in the future.”

He added there were particularly strong performances French, Culture and Communication, Fine Art, Textiles Graphics.

Scott Broom achieved an A*in A Level Geography, a C in A Level Maths, Distinction* in BTEC Business ICT

Results in BTEC qualifications were consistently strong, with the vast majority of grades awarded Distinction* or Distinction.

Notable successes included Scott Broom who achieved an A*in A Level Geography, a C in A Level Maths, a Distinction* in BTEC Business and a Distinction* in BTEC ICT.

He is off to study Accounting and Finance, with a year in Business at Royal Holloway University in London.

Abigail Fitzgerald achieved an A in A Level Fine Art, an A in A Level Textiles and a C in A Level Photography. She if off to study Fine Art at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.

Orieshia Thomas achieved a B English Literature, a Distinction* in BTEC Business and Triple Distinction* in BTEC Performing Arts

Orieshia Thomas achieved a B in Level English Literature, a Distinction* in BTEC Business and a Triple Distinction* in BTEC Performing Arts.

She has a deferred entry to study Theatre and Performance with Creative Writing at the University of Surrey, starting next year.

This year, more than 70 students have gain places at university, a record number for The Glassworks, the vast majority achieving entry to their first-choice course.
