RBS opening hours at Folkestone branch to cut

RBS will be cutting the opening hours of its Folkestone branch later this year to just three days per week.

It comes a week after the bank, which is 72% government-owned, announced losses of £7bn in 2016 and warned of branch closures and job losses.

Customers have been told the changes at the Sandgate Road branch will come into force on June 5.

The bank says it will be engaging with customers, businesses and community to make sure people are aware of the changes.

The new opening hours will be Monday, Tuesday and Friday between 10am and 4pm.

The bank was already closed at weekends.

Bosses say there are other ways for people to continue banking with RBS including at ATMs where availability and accessing cash and balances will remain unchanged.

They have also advised the next nearest branch is in Ashford but is 17.5 miles away.

The five Post Office branches within a three mile radius of the branch will accept money being paid in, withdrawals, balance checks and get business change.

An RBS spokesman said: "We know that not all of our customers are comfortable or familiar with using online or mobile banking, so we have provided focused training for our branch teams who will support our customers with digital skills coaching.

"We are committed to following the UK Government protocol on significant opening hour changes, and we have made these decisions following careful consideration of a wide range of factors including branch usage and the alternative ways our customers can bank with us locally."
