An eight-year-old pupil has been temporarily excluded after taking a knife into school following a row with another child.

Staff at the Christ Church Primary Academy, in Folkestone, found the table knife in the boy's school bag.

The pupil has been excluded and parents were informed in a letter from head teacher Jim Kreiselmeier, who said measures were in place to prevent a repeat of the incident.

It reads: "Unfortunately, a child brought a table knife to school after a disagreement with another child the previous evening.

"Although the knife was brought to school, it did not leave the pupil's bag until it was confiscated and was not seen by other pupils.

"There is no risk to any of the children and we will maintain vigilance to ascertain that no further incidents occur.

"I am writing to you to address any concerns you may have, as well as to clarify the situation further.

"Mr McDonagh, the deputy head teacher and Mrs Lancefield the family and pupil support officer dealt with this matter expediently on the day."

The mother of one pupil at the school, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "I am very concerned about this incident.

"My son is in reception year and he hasn't mentioned it to me and I have not mentioned it to him.

"I think he is too young to really understand what happened."

The incident happened at the Brockman Road school on Thursday, November 7.

Parents and carers were informed by letter on Monday, November 11.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "Christ Church Academy did inform us that an eight-year-old pupil had a knife in his bag, but that no children were in danger.

"The matter is or has been dealt with by the school itself."
