Councillors call for urgent review into 'shambolic' CCTV in Folkestone

Councillors have admitted that the ‘shambolic’ state of the CCTV system in Folkestone needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency.
The community overview committee last night considered a damning report that highlighted the failures and run down state of the system dating back to 2009.
Members decided a further review was needed to seek alternative solutions to the problem, as well as a further investigation into why the council ignored the issues and to advise the cabinet to keep funding in the budget.
Chairman Cllr Paul Marsh (People’s First) told the meeting: “It’s quite clear that the scheme currently operating isn’t fit for purpose.
"But they [the council] knew that in 2009 so why didn’t they say it wasn’t fit for purpose? It’s hopeless carrying on as it is.”
Cllr Lynne Beaumont called the situation "appalling" and added the council has "to put it right".
