Calorific Canadian deep-fried doughnut bacon cheeseburger added to menu of Folkestone cafe Paige’s Pig-Casso Café in The Old High Street

A calorific deep-fried doughnut bacon cheeseburger that would be a dream come true for Homer Simpson has been launched in Kent.

The bizarre stomach-busting Canadian food invention has arrived at a Folkestone cafe.

It has 2,000 calories - almost four times the number in a McDonald's Big Mac... and the same as a woman's daily recommended allowance. The 'slim-line' non-battered version has more than 1,500.

Paige's Pig-Casso cafe in Folkestone has added a doughnut burger to its menu

The meal is a cheeseburger topped with bacon sandwiched between two halves of a sugary doughnut.

It might not make the pages of health guru Jamie Oliver's latest recipe book.

But it could raise eyebrows among health professionals amid Britain's spiraling obesity epidemic.

However, Heidi Catlow, of Paige's Pig-Casso Café in The Old High Street which opened last November, added it to her menu this week.

She told KentOnline: "I'm a very small independent trader and all this has been absolutely fantastic.

"It's been my biggest seller this week and the last went this afternoon. I'm off to get some more burgers now.

Owner Heidi said the response has been "absolutely fantastic"

"I saw a video on Facebook and I thought 'why not'.

"It's simply replacing a bun with a doughnut. We're looking at going one step further which will be to skewer the whole thing cover it in a bacon batter and deep fry. That should add another 500 calories.

"I've tried it on one customer who said that's really nice.

"Even those that haven't tried it are willing to give it a go maybe once as a bucket list thing.

"We do a meal option with a bacon flavour milkshake and bacon cup cake. For us it's all about the bacon."

The fully deep fried version is around 2,000 calories

And the cafe's name Pig-Casso has a special reason too.

Heidi added: "It's named after my 14-year-old daughter, Paige, and being in the Creative Quarter we had to think of an artist's name and came up with that after Picasso."

She first revealed she would be giving diners the chance to try the epic meal to kmfm presenter Ben Pearce this week.
