Tiny calf given knitted jumper at farm in Paddlesworth, Folkestone

This premature calf was 'knocking on heavens door' when she was born more than two months early.

But thanks to her quick-thinking owners, she is now snug and warm in her very own knitted jumper.

Lovingly named Prem, the Aberdeen Angus-cross heifer, was born at midday yesterday at Cole Farm in Paddlesworth, near Hawkinge.

Her mother looks over protectively

But with her tiny frame - which is no bigger than a small dog - and the biting temperatures, the calf needed some woolly help.

Farmer Penny Clayson said: "She's absolutely beautiful and so sweet, but she's so tiny.

"We put the jumper on her to keep her warm. Pneumonia can be a real problem for calves born too early.

Prem is so small, they have to take her jumper off so she can move

"But she's so small that it's very heavy for her. We have to keep taking it off so she can move about.

"We've been feeding her and keeping an eye, obviously but it is still very much touch and go. Hopefully she will make it."
