A driver escaped injury causing more than a bit of a splash last night when they rolled their car and smashed into a fire hydrant.

The crash on the A20 in Stanford, near Westenhanger, broke the hydrant - spooling a jet of water about 15ft in the air.

Emergency services were called at 7.35pm and the Kent Police Road Policing Unit tweeted these pictures at just after 9pm.

The incident was on the link road between the A20 Ashford Road near Hythe just off junction 11 of the M20.

One lane of the road was coned off while the "geyser" was brought under control.

A police spokesman said: "The car had overturned and caused damage to a water hydrant. Police, KFRS, Secamb and the water authority all attended the scene. The road was not blocked and no injuries were reported.

"It is not clear what caused the collision, but we would always advise drivers to Play Your Part in keeping the county’s roads safe by driving to the conditions."
