An elderly coronavirus patient in Spain is desperate to reconnect with a lady friend he hasn't spoken to in decades.

Antonio Garcia is currently housebound in Barcelona, having been discharged from hospital.

The 86-year-old has several underlying health problems and dearly wants to make contact with a woman he knew more than 50 years ago.

Speaking from her home in the Netherlands, his daughter Pilar Garcia says the friend's name was Sally, with the possible surname Nicholas.

She came from Folkestone and they met in the early 1960s while he was stationed on the island of Majorca as a Guardia Civil policeman.

Sally's family had a holiday property there and they became close friends.

In either 1961 or 1962, he visited her at her home in Cordova Court, Sandgate Road.

She had a brother called Stephen and a dog called Mira or Mina.

Mr Garcia returned to the family home in Granada where he received a letter from Sally on October 17, 1964.

She was offering her sympathies after his father had died.

Communication slowed and the friends eventually lost touch and Antonio went on to marry and have four children.

But now as he battles the illness, he would love to reconnect.

Pilar says he has tried various means over the years to make contact without success.

She said: "He is desperate to speak to her again and I am hoping we can find her so they can have a conference call or something."

She believes Sally was a few years younger than her dad, so would now be in her early 80s.

Mr Garcia still lives in Granada but is staying with a second daughter at the moment.
