A major emergency response was launched to rescue a person trapped in mud on the coast.

Police and paramedics, as well as members of HM Coastguard, were sent to Folkestone beach last night.

The casualty needed to be rescued after getting into trouble next to the Harbour Arm shortly after 8.40pm.

A spokesperson for the Coastguard said: "We received reports of a casualty stuck in mud at Folkestone Harbour.

"Coastguard Rescue Teams (CRTs) from Folkestone and Romney Marsh were sent to the scene, alongside Kent Police, Kent Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service."

Meanwhile, one fire engine and a water safety unit also attended the incident before departing the scene shortly before 10pm.

The casualty was eventually recovered from the beach and placed into the care of paramedics.

Crews then took them to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford for further medical treatment.
