A council wants the public to help them track down a fly-tipper who caused a road to be closed for a week.

The selfish offender dumped an entire truckload of building waste – which included hazardous materials – in Church Hill at Old Hawkinge, just after 6.30pm on Wednesday, February 16.

Now council officers are keen to speak to anyone who may recognise some of the more distinctive items in the load.

These included large white louvre doors, white tongue-and-groove panelling, grey painted thick textured wallpaper, patterned artexed ceiling, black wall tiles and a bath.

They would also like to hear from anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious in the area around the time of the incident.

Cllr Stuart Peall, the cabinet member for enforcement, regulatory services, waste and building control, said: “Our enforcement officers continue to work with communities across the district to make sure fly-tippers pay the price when they dump their waste with no regard for the environment or the disruption it causes.

"We have successfully prosecuted a number of fly-tippers thanks to valuable information from residents so I would urge anyone who knows something that might lead to these offenders being punished to contact us immediately."
