A police investigation has been launched after cash machine users were left holding their noses - when a vandal poked dog mess into the card slot.

The disgusting sight greeted people trying to use the ATM outside a post office in Folkestone's Black Bull Road.

Now police probing the criminal damage are set to visit the shop tomorrow to carry out inquiries.

A note warning of the stinky protest has been stuck on the screen next to the smeared faeces after it was discovered yesterday morning.

Written in capitals with a red felt tip pen, the poster reads: "Sorry ATM out of service. Someone kindly poked dog mess in card slot!"

The stomach-churning sight was discovered by a woman who works at the post office when she arrived for work.

The ATM is opposite Mundella Primary School in Black Bull Road.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police has received a report of criminal damage and an appointment made for an officer to speak with the victim on Thursday for enquiries to be carried out.

"If anyone has any information they can call 101 quoting 20-308."
