Police cordoned off Folkestone High Street, near Debenhams, after a suspicious package was found

Police cordoned off a high street after a suspicious package was found.

A 'dark-coloured metal suitcase' was discovered in Folkestone town centre around 12pm today.

Police rushed to Sandgate Road and the area by Debenhams was taped off.

But a police spokesman said: "Officers attended the scene and quickly established the package - a dark-coloured suitcase, posed no threat.

"However, the owner was not identified and the suitcase has been seized by officers."

Sandgate Road was fully reopened at midday.
