Babies and children have been left in sweltering heat in a new disruption of Eurotunnel services, a couple say.

Passengers are being held up for hours at the Channel Tunnel, at both the Cheriton and Coquelles ends, after a train was stopped today.

Tony and Hayley Jayes describe scenes reminiscent of the hours of delay and misery for travellers during constant cross-Channel disruptions in June and July.

Illegal immigrants are believed to be behind the havoc this time rather than striking French workers.

Mrs Jayes said this afternoon. “It’s absolutely baking hot and there are children, newborn babies and dogs.

“There are no loos, nothing to drink, we’re just sitting here, stuck. We haven’t moved an inch in an hour and a half.

“If you get delays on a plane you get vouchers for something to eat and drink, or even a hotel room. There’s nothing here. It’s a little bit inhumane really.”

The Jayes, who left their home in Minster at 12.30pm and could not even reach the check-in by 3.30pm.

Mrs Jayes added: “We use this service 13 times a year because we live on Sheppey but have a house in France. We’d usually get to our house by 5pm.

“I have never ever had it as bad as this. It’s appalling.”

Eurotunnel have put out warnings of severe delays on its website.

By 9pm this evening, lorry drivers were facing a queue of up to an hour at Folkestone.

Meanwhile, Eurotunnel passengers were looking at adding an hour-and-a-half onto their journey from Folkestone.

It comes after seven migrants boarded a Eurotunnel freight train.

There is no estimate for when the service will get back to normal.
