Folkestone: Theft suspect appeal after pensioner targeted in Canterbury Road

Police are hunting a man after a pensioner was targeted by a thief who tried to steal items from her bag.

Officers have released a CCTV image of a man they want to question following the incident in Folkestone.

It is reported a 77-year-old woman was walking along Canterbury Road and the man put his hand in her bag before running away.

The alleged theft was reported to have taken place at around 1pm on Monday, January 23.

The victim, who was not injured, reported the man approached her from behind and took a glasses case from her bag which he then threw away.

He was last seen running off towards Dover Road.

Police are now hoping the public can help track the man down.

Investigating officer Sgt Chris Poulter said: "Thankfully the victim was not hurt in this incident but was understandably left very shaken.

"We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident."
